SUMMARY:Transferable Skills: Introduction to Applied AI for Researchers
DESCRIPTION:In the autumn semester 2026\, RISE is offering doctoral student
 s a GRACE [https://www.unibas.ch/en/University/Administration-Services/Vic

  Transferable Skills [https://www.unibas.ch/en/University/Administration-S
 ervices/Vice-President-s-Office-for-Education/Academic-Programs/Graduate-C

ce for research.\\r\\nThis course offers doctoral candidates a structured
introduction to the use of artificial intelligence in research\, with an e
mphasis placed on AI-augmented methods rather than any particular set of a
pplications or platforms. By the end of the course\, participants will und
erstand how generative large language models are built and why this shapes
their behaviour\, be able to deploy AI models as "tool-building tools" ca
pable of handling bespoke research tasks\, possess a working overview of t
he features offered by the major AI platforms\, and be equipped with a bas
ic framework for critically evaluating and benchmarking AI-generated outpu
ts. The aim throughout is to leave participants with transferable methodol
ogical competencies that remain useful to them as researchers even as the
underlying models and applications continue to rapidly change.\\r\\nThe co
urse is divided over two half-days on October 19th and 23rd\, 2026\, both
from 8:30am to 1pm. Course language is English. Further course details [ht

l be able to register for a version of this course\, also taught by RISE v
