In the autumn semester of 2026, RISE is offering doctoral candidates in the humanities and social sciences a Transferable Skills course on the use of artificial intelligence in research, delivered via GRACE.

The course focuses on AI-driven methods rather than individual applications or platforms. Upon completion, participants will understand how generative LLMs are developed, pre-trained, and fine-tuned for specific requirements, and how their architecture affects their behaviour. They will be able to use AI models to develop research tools, will have a practically oriented overview of the core capabilities of the leading AI platforms, and will be familiar with fundamental approaches to critically assessing and evaluating AI-generated outputs. The aim of the course is to equip participants with transferable methodological competences that remain relevant in the long term, even as models and applications continue to evolve rapidly.

The course is spread across two half-days and takes place on 9. and 12. November 2026, each from 09:00 to 13:30. Course language is English. Further details about the course and registration.
