Small and big helpers in everyday research life

RISE complements its service offering for researchers at the University of Basel with a presence on GitHub.

Currently, a good dozen repositories are made available on our GitHub page. In addition to teaching materials for RISE's training courses, the collections also contain scripts for automating workflows and extending functionality. In the future, we will present individual repositories in detail here and explain their possible applications in everyday research using examples. These include methods for automated downloading of web content (so-called webscaping), the integration of the Transkribus text recognition API in the source management tool Tropy, or the Simple-Alto Parser, which allows lists recognized with Transkribus or other text recognition software (e.g. address lists, bibliographies, etc.) to be automatically broken down into units of meaning.

GitHub is a platform that allows for program code hosting, version control, and collaborative work. Thus, RISE chooses a modern and agile workflow to publish and keep up-to-date crash courses, examples and software components.
