Change of director

Thomas Schmidt und Eric Decker

With the departure of Thomas Schmidt, there is a new interim director for RISE since 1 August 2022.

Thomas Schmidt, leading RISE from the start in September 2021, left the University of Basel at the end of July. Thomas made an enormous contribution to RISE for getting off on the right foot: internal organisation, exchange with other university units, national and international contacts, in addition to consulting for some fifteen projects. Many colleagues, as well as the RISE team, could benefit from his expertise in linguistics and his experience in data and project management. Thomas' most recent articles, touching on topics such as standardisation for spoken corpora and infrastructure studies, can be found here in the News section. RISE is exploring the possibility of future collaborations with Thomas.
As of August 1, Eric Decker took the lead as director of RISE. Eric has a long standing involvement in research support, first in Germany as coordinator of the Heidelberg Research Architecture, and since 2016 in Switzerland in the Research Navigator pilot project. Thanks to his experience in consulting and accompanying projects, Eric will guide RISE in this second year of activity.
If the director did change, the direction did not: RISE is here to support researchers in designing and implementing digital workflows, making better use of existing services and strengthening synergy effects through  networking within and outside the university.

"Dem wunderbaren RISE-Team wünsche ich viel Erfolg, gute Nerven und die nötige Lockerheit"

Best wishes to Thomas from the team!
